Rope

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt led the United States through its Great Depression in the 1930s, a time of grave economic woes for the nation, all of which was occurring while Europe stood on the brink of the start of the century's second world war.

In the USA, unemployment, foreclosures, bankruptcies, and suicides were at all-time highs during the Great Depression.

In the midst of this searing economic crisis, FDR told the nation and the world:

"When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."

Two passages from Isaiah also fortified many people during that tumultuous era:

Isaiah 41:10 (TNIV):

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Isaiah 43:2 (TNIV):

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."

When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.

The God of Isaiah, Israel, and all of us will strengthen you, help you, uphold you, and He will always be with you.
