Obscene

Mae West was a huge star of stage and screen, mainly back in the 1920s and 1930s. She was one of America's most well-known sex symbols during that era. One time a Broadway show in which she starred was closed down due to protests by various members of the New York City clergy who deemed West's performance "obscene."

Mae West responded to the NYC clergy, "I'll tell you what's obscene. It's you preachers who are supposed to be men of God, but live like rich men instead of calling your people and yourselves to give what you have to meet the needs of the poor. I'll tell you what's obscene. It's churches that spend thousands of dollars for stained glass windows and claim that's what Jesus would do with the money."

Wow.

When God uses a sex symbol to speak as a prophet, we'd better listen.
