Still

In Exodus 14:14 (NIV), Moses and the Israelites are standing, panic-stricken, on the shores of the Red Sea, with Pharaoh's horsemen, horses, and chariots in hot pursuit behind them. The Israelites don't know where to go or what to do. They feel trapped, and they believe that a certain watery doom is just moments away.

Then Moses speaks God-ordained words to them:

"The Lord will fight for you," Moses tells the millions of Israelites gathered on the shores of the Red Sea, "you need only to be still."

Moments later, God parts the Red Sea, Moses and the millions of Israelites cross over safely, and then Pharaoh's horsemen, horses, and chariots are consumed by the waves.

Can you be still when the waves of torment surround you?

Or do you flail and fight away, relying only on your own strength and power?

Stop flailing away, needlessly expending energy.

Let God fight for you. Be still.

Victory is assured.
