When we were at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, USA, last weekend, as part of the Liberty Univeristy commencement activities, I happened to pick up a TRBC bumper sticker which read, simply and profoundly, "Not I, But Christ."
Not I, but Christ.
The bumper sticker was a shortened version of the words of Paul, as found in Galatians 2:20 (KJV), when he wrote to the brothers and sisters of the church in Galatia, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me ...."
Not I, but Christ.
According to Pastor John MacArthur, in his Study Bible notes, Paul's words in Galatians 2:20 signify that " (the) believer's old self is dead, having been crucified with Christ. The believer's new man has the privilege of the indwelling Christ, empowering him and living through him."
Does the world see you, or Christ?
Does the world see Christ indwelling in you, and empowering you, and living through you ... or does the world just see you?
Remember what the world needs to see: "Not I, But Christ."
