Our Daily Bread

In Matthew 6:11 (TNIV), as part of his teaching on prayer in his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us to pray, "Give us today our daily bread."

What exactly is our daily bread?

It consists of our daily needs, necessities, provisions, and petitions.

It may vary from day to day.

Our daily bread is fresh bread. It is not stale bread left over from yesterday.

Our daily bread is provision that is sufficient for today.

Our daily bread is consumed with the confidence and faith that God is going to bake a fresh loaf of daily bread again for you tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that.

God provided daily bread in the form of manna to the Israelites for 40 years. Each day (except for the day before the Sabbath) the Israelites were allowed to collected only enough manna as they needed for that day. They were prohibited from collecting or hoarding any additional manna for additional days, except for the Sabbath. In a way it was a test of their faith, to see if they truly believed that God would meet their daily provisions, every single day, for 40 years.

Would you pass a similar test of your faith?

Do you really trust God for your daily provision and your daily needs - your daily bread - or do you hoard and are you afraid that He might not really be up to the task?

Jesus said to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread."

That means that God is up to the task of meeting your needs and necessities, your provisions and petitions, on a daily basis. Every single day.

Walk into God's heavenly bakery every day.

Fresh bread is waiting for you.

Daily.
